Founding Product Manager
Product Manager · On-site, San Francisco
Base salary: $120,000–$180,000
This is an on-site role in our San Francisco office. You should be based in the Bay Area or willing to relocate.
a1mobile is building an AI-native carrier for businesses. We’re rebuilding the carrier layer to bring mobile, landline, and AI phone systems together. A business number should do more than ring: it should answer, understand, take action, and follow up.
Our first product, a1mobile One, combines unlimited calls and texts, 5G data, and an AI receptionist built into the carrier for $99/month. It helps small businesses such as restaurants, cafés, salons, studios, contractors, and hotels handle customer conversations, bookings, orders, quotes, and follow-ups.
We recently raised an $11.5M seed round led by General Catalyst, backed by Menlo Ventures, SV Angel, Commerce Ventures, and other investors.
We’re looking for a Founding Product Manager to work closely with our founders, engineers, sales team, and customers. You’ll turn customer needs and product priorities into clear specs, realistic delivery plans, and shipped features, then follow through to make sure they solve the right problem.
🧭 Experience we're looking for
• 2+ years in product management, including products or features you helped ship.
• Work directly with sales and customers to understand their needs, observe workflows, and identify meaningful product improvements.
• Write clear product specs, user stories, and acceptance criteria, covering expected behavior and important edge cases.
• Partner with founders, design, and engineering to clarify scope, evaluate trade-offs, and break work into achievable milestones.
• Coordinate product deadlines across teams and time zones. Agree realistic timelines, track dependencies, and surface risks early.
• Keep requirements, decisions, ownership, and progress clear through Notion, Linear, and written updates.
• Test customer journeys with engineering and QA, coordinate launch readiness, and help sales understand new capabilities.
• Follow up after launch using customer feedback and product data, and do what it takes to turn what we learn into a stronger product.
• Good product judgment and the ability to simplify complex problems.
• Clear, structured writing, especially specs that engineers can act on.
• Strong organization and follow-through on deadlines and dependencies.
• Ability to understand customer needs without treating every request as a feature to build.
• Comfort working closely with engineers and understanding technical constraints.
• Effective coordination across time zones, with useful handoffs and timely communication.
• Ownership, initiative, and attention to the details that make products easy to use.
• Open communication, teamwork, and adaptability in a fast-moving startup.
• Experience with AI, chat, or voice products.
• Familiarity with small-business software or telecommunications.
• Experience using product analytics to understand behavior and measure improvements.
• Experience working in an early-stage startup.
Help shape how a new carrier works for businesses. You’ll work directly with the founding team and customers, influence what gets built, and help establish how we turn ideas into products that small businesses rely on every day.
Share one or two products or features you helped ship. Briefly explain the problem, your contribution, key decisions, and the outcome or what you learned. Links or short written examples are welcome.
